So many people have hopes and dreams, places they want to go, and people they want to meet, but their financial constraints limit them on how much they can really do. Our finances and their state can either set us up for success or failure. Financial freedom is so important to walking in your now season. Removing the heavy weight of debt from your life can free you up to do so many more things.
My journey to financial freedom has been just that; a journey that has taken me four years to see that light at the end of the tunnel. December 2015 was a big month for me. I was able to pay off all my credit card debt, allowing me to resign from my part-time job. With the extra time, I've been able to do more for myself and for the kingdom of God by simply spending less time working and more time giving.
Two month in and I am already seeing the benefits of having less debt. Having less debt has meant having more discretionary income and more savings. More discretionary income has meant more giving and more doing. More savings has meant less emergencies. My car was due for some maintenance last week which ended up costing $1,400. Normally I would have gone to my dad for assistance but I am proud to say I was able to pay for it myself. Since I haven't been pouring so much money into paying off debt, I have more money to spend on things I actually need and can see the return on my investment.
This month generations is studying financial freedom. We are taking it back to the basics, helping us to learn how to take simple steps towards better managing our finances and moving towards become free from debt. I am so appreciative to Pastor Jeremy for sharing this with us. I've learned tips on not only how to get out of debt but also how to save for my future.
God intentions for us aren't to see us in debt. Proverbs 22:7 says, "Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender." We are a society that has become slaves to our lenders. I don't know about you but I would love to break the bondage of slavery when it comes to my finances. My journey to total freedom isn't over. I still have a few years left on my student loans, but each day I am taking one more step to becoming free.
Are you currently in a financial bind? Do you need a gameplan on how to get rid of your debt to begin to walk in freedom? Are you currently walking in financial freedom? I would love to hear from you.
Yours truly,
A girl on fire
