Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I have no doubt you all had a great Turkey day. I had an awesome day with my family sharing lots of food and lots of laughs. I can definitely say that I have so much to be thankful for. As I reflect on this season of thanks it has made me appreciate the fact that I have so much to be thankful for every day and I am learning to have a heart of thanksgiving each day of my life.
As I ran last minute errands this week to prepare for Thanksgiving I made sure I greeted each person I met with a smile and tried to be a person that someone could give thanks for. I made sure to thank all of the employees at the grocery store for all they do. After all, they have to put up with people like me who are the reason they have to work on Thanksgiving because I always seem to forget things. I thanked the Lens crafter employees and optometrist for the awesome service they provided me at my annual eye check-up. I even thanked the lady in the grocery store that nearly ran me over with her grocery cart trying to get a pack of cheese off the shelf. Sounds weird right? Well even though my ankles were a little sore from almost being run over, I was simply grateful for waking up that morning, having legs to walk on, money to buy groceries, and a family to share the day with.
I’ve been extremely fortunate to have lived a really great life. I grew up with my entire family under one roof, went on lots of vacations, my parents put me through college, and I have a great job and life here in California. I’ve always had something to be thankful, but to honest I haven’t always practice a heart of thanksgiving. I frequently complained about working holidays, complained about jobs and co-workers, family situations; I mean the list goes on. This time around I am determined to celebrate the good in every situation.
Instead of complaining about working holidays, I will simply be thankful for the job. Instead of complaining about family, I will be happy that I have a family, no matter how much they make me shake my head. Pastor Jay said it best, we don't have to be thankful FOR everything, but we can be thankful IN everything. Today I choose to be thankful in everything. I also choose to live each day being thankful in all that life has to offer.
Sincerely,
A girl on fire
